Published 2024.09.24

Spring

Spring in Seoul typically lasts from March to May. The average temperature in March is 5.7 degrees Celsius, rising to 17.8 degrees Celsius in May.

Influenced by high-pressure systems, Seoul's skies are clear and blue, although dust storms from the Gobi Desert, crossing China and Mongolia, can occur frequently.

Due to the extremely dry air in spring, hikers need to be particularly cautious about wildfires.

As spring progresses, cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums, azaleas, and other spring flowers begin to bloom in vibrant colors. The cherry blossom festival held on Yeouido Island, known as "Seoul's Manhattan," is especially breathtaking.

Summer

Summer in Seoul begins in June and concludes at the end of August. August is hot and humid, with average temperatures reaching 25.7 degrees Celsius.

The rainy season arrives in mid-June and lasts for about a month. However, compared to rainy seasons in other countries, Seoul's rainy season is relatively mild, with July rainfall reaching 383 mm.

During this time, the lush greenery in Seoul's parks and mountains absorbs moisture, becoming even denser.

Among the enjoyable summer activities, cycling, rollerblading, swimming, and Han River surfing are particularly popular.

Autumn

Seoul's autumn is exceptionally beautiful. The climate is cool; the sky is azure; the hillsides surrounding the city appear draped in a stunning veil of golden and deep red hues, creating an enchanting atmosphere.

The expansive gardens of the ancient palaces, filled with maple, ginkgo, and beech trees, are ideal for leisurely strolls.

As autumn arrives, countless residents of Seoul ascend the mountains to admire the breathtaking autumn foliage and experience the beauty of nature.

Autumn in Korea generally lasts from September to November. The traditional Korean festival celebrating the harvest, Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving), occurs during this time.

Winter

Seoul's winter extends from December to February. Due to the northwest monsoon generated by the Siberian High, winters in Seoul are extremely cold.

Temperatures can sometimes drop to -15 degrees Celsius, freezing even the Han River. As the saying goes, "three cold days followed by four warm days," indicating that winter weather typically consists of three cold days followed by a warm fourth.

Seoul also experiences periodic heavy snowfalls, blanketing the city's parks and gardens in a milky white layer. The Lunar New Year, a time to welcome the new year, also falls
